| THE CONSTITUTION OF THE CHIPPENHAM SPORTS CLUB
1 Name of Club
The Club shall be called the Chippenham Sports Club
2 Address of Club
The address of the Chippenham Sports Club (hereinafter called the Sports Club) shall be Chippenham Sports Ground, Bristol Road, Chippenham.
3 Objects of the Club
The objects of the Sports Club shall be to provide facilities for Bowls, Cricket, Hockey and Tennis, and for such other games, as the General Committee shall from time to time determine, and also to provide facilities for social activities.
4 Property of the Club
a) The real property held or which may hereafter be held by the Sports Club, shall be vested in four Trustees, at present:
Norman Gould, Phillip Cleverly, Ernie Kee, Trevor Bates
Or such Trustees as may from time to time be appointed by a two-thirds majority of Members present at an Annual General Meeting or an Extraordinary General Meeting (to include no more than one third of social members within any of these votes).
b) The Trustees shall hold the property as joint tenants upon trust for sale with power to postpone such sale as long as they think fit in their absolute discretion. The Trustees if authorised by the General Committee may borrow money using the property as security. The Trustees shall have the power to mortgage, lease, surrender or exchange, all or any part of the property of the Sports Club. The sum or sums, of money obtained thereby shall be paid into the Banking Account of the Sports Club, or otherwise expended for the benefit of the Sports Club.
c) The Trustees may also offer advice, either individually or collectively, on decisions affecting the viability, future or general policy of the Club. They will not be responsible for any debts whether incurred in the past, present or future, rather these will be the responsibility of the membership as a whole.
d) 28 days notice must be given to the Club Secretary of a Resolution to remove a Trustee, and such notice must be included in the agenda for an Annual General Meeting or Extraordinary General Meeting, and issued 21 days before that meeting.
5 Management of the Club
The Management of the Club shall be vested in a General Committee...
This Committee shall consist of:
a) The Officers of the Sports Club, namely the Chairman, Hon. Treasurer, Hon. Secretary and the Hon. Ground Secretary.
b) Two representatives of each section namely, namely Men's Bowls, Ladies Bowls, Cricket, Ladies Hockey, Men's Hockey and Tennis.
The General Committee shall have power to co-opt, on a temporary or permanent basis, additional members from the membership as a whole including Social membership.
The Trustees shall be ex-officio members of all committees.
The General Committee shall be responsible, inter alia, for:
1) The General Finances of the Sports Club, including the presentation of audited accounts to the Annual General Meeting for approval and the setting of contributions from each section;
2) the maintenance of Grounds and Buildings;
3) the engagement and dismissal of Staff;
4) the administration of the Bar and Clubhouse;
5) the raising of funds through a Fund Raising Committee activated, as the needs of the Club require.
6 Management of Sections
Each Section
a) shall appoint its own officers and sectional Committee for the management of games played by that section;
b) shall produce annually an Income and Expenditure Account, and Balance Sheet, a copy of which must be placed before the General Committee of the Sports Club, and at its own Annual General Meeting;
c) shall provide two representatives for each meeting of the General Committee and of any other Committee formed with the General Committee's approval;
d) shall be solely responsible for the control and administration of its own funds, and the payment of such contributions to the funds of the Sports Club, which the General Committee may require;
e) shall hold regular meetings necessary to properly administer the section.
7 Membership
a) Ordinary Members Candidates for membership shall be nominated by two members and subject to the approval of the Committee of the section, which they desires to join. Section Committees will also be responsible for appointing their own Vice Presidents. Candidates for Social membership shall be nominated by two existing members and subject to the approval of the General Committee. Upon election and receipt of subscription a member shall be supplied with an Official Membership Card bearing his or her name, the date of issue and expiry and the signature of an Officer of the Club or the appropriate section.
b) Temporary Honorary Members Any person being a member of the Club, Team, Society or other organisation, visiting the Chippenham Sports Ground, either as opponents of a team consisting of members of the Club or as a member of a Club, Team, society of other organisation having temporary exclusive use and enjoyment of the Sports Ground or any part thereof by consent of the General Committee shall upon proof of bonafide membership of such Club, Team, society or other organisation to be furnished by the Secretary thereof shall be entitled to enjoy the facilities of the Club including the purchase of intoxication liquor or excisable goods at the bar.
c) Cessation of Membership Membership of the Club shall cease in the event of the serious misconduct of any member, either by breach of the Rules, or otherwise being brought to the notice of the General Committee, which after hearing the explanation of the member shall decided by a two thirds majority of members present to expel such offending member.
d) Guests A member may personally introduce friends as his guests but no person shall be so introduced more than three times within a period of one week or four times in one month. Members must accompany guests introduced by them during the period of their stay in the Club, and guests shall be permitted to make payment for excisable articles provided on the Club premises. Members introducing visitors are responsible for seeing that the Visitors Book is signed, temporary Honorary Members being exempt.
e) Temporary Membership Temporary Membership of one month may be given at the General Committees discretion. An official membership card will be issued.
f) Record of Membership The General Committee shall cause to be kept upon the Club premises a current list of the names and addresses of all members, these lists to be provided by the relevant sections.
8 Subscriptions
The committee of the appropriate section shall fix the annual subscription for their section. Members playing in more than one section shall pay a subscription equal three quarters of each section. If a member plays in more than two sections the General Committee shall decide the total subscription payable. The annual subscription for social members shall be fixed by the General Committee and approved by the Annual General Meeting of the Sports Club.
9 Financial Year
The Financial Year of the Club shall end on the 31st December in each year.
10 Restriction on Rights of Social Members
Social Members shall be entitled to attend Annual General Meetings and Extraordinary General Meetings and shall be entitled to vote on any resolution placed before such a meeting. Social Membership will not exceed one third of the total club membership.
11 Alteration to the Constitution
The Constitution of the Club shall not be altered except at an Annual General Meeting or at a Extraordinary General Meeting convened for the purpose by the General Committee of fifteen or more playing members (to include no more than one third of social members) and passed by a majority of at least two thirds of the members present at such a meeting (to include no more than one third of social members). The notice promulgating the meeting shall be displayed in the Clubhouse and will contain the Agenda. No other additional business shall be brought up at the Annual General Meeting unless 28 days notice is given to the Secretary.
12 Life Members
Life Members appointed for long-standing service to the Sports Club may be recommended by the section to which the proposed Life Member belongs to the General Committee for endorsement and submission for approval at the next Annual General Meeting.
13 Dissolution
A Resolution to dissolve the club can only be passed at an AGM or EGM through a majority vote of the membership. If upon dissolution of the club there remains after the satisfaction of all debts and liabilities any property whatsoever, the same shall not be paid to or distributed among the members of the club, but shall be given or transferred to some other neighbouring club or clubs. The decision on which club or clubs should benefit and what share of the assets should go to each is to be made by the trustees.
Clubhouse Code of Conduct

Rules are for your comfort and safety and to ensure you enjoy your visit to Chippenham Sports Club.
- It is the Clubs policy not to serve persons under the age of 18 with alcohol or to serve adults with the same for the use of persons under the age of 18. You will be asked to prove your age if you appear to be under 18.
- Persons using the Clubhouse are asked to consider other users at all times and not to put themselves or others at risk by their conduct. Anyone found acting in an unacceptable manner, this includes foul language, rudeness, any of the 'isms' and the slightest hint of bullying, will be asked to leave the premises.
- NO boots with any type of stud or spike to be worn in the Clubhouse at any time, including the Toilets. This is for the safety of the wearer and others and to save damage to floors.
- In the interest of the safety and comfort of all club members and visitors, there will be no running around in the Bar area.
- In the interest of safety all types of balls or other throwing objects manufactured for outdoor use should not be used in the clubhouse. Even when used by young children there is a high risk of glass, light or window breakages.
- NO muddy or wet kit allowed in the Clubhouse, including Astro Shoes. When kitted up, please use Changing Room Toilets.
- Please do not pile kit bags in the way of doors or walkways, use the Bag Rack.
- Please take care of your belongings. If you feel happier, put your Teams valuables in a bag and hand them over the Bar for safe keeping.
- The decisions of the Club Steward or person in charge of the Bar / Clubhouse are final in all aspects of Member / Customer safety and comfort.
Use of Club by Club Members during a Booked Event.
Whilst a booking is taking place on Club premises, their will always be an area for members who are not part of the Booked Event, to use to obtain refreshment. This area will be designated by the Club Steward and may not always have the full facilities normally available.
Members are expected to respect the use of the facilities by a Booked Event, just as the Booked Event is expected to respect the use of any shared facilities by members and not use an area put aside purely for Non Event goers.

By-Law - Children Under 16
Children under the age of 16 are only allowed in the Clubhouse or on Club Land under the direct supervision / control of their Coach, their Parent / Guardian or with the express permission of the Clubhouse Manager / Steward and in the event of the latter should take instruction from Him / Her.
Coaches, Parents, Guardians should note that they are considered to be responsible for their children under 16 at all times when in any Club premise or within the boundaries of Sports Club owned or used Land.

Chippenham Sports Club
Byelaw Reference Visitors / Non members.
A person or persons attending, taking part in, or supporting an organised sport or activity on the premises, is for that amount of time considered to hold membership of the Sports Club.
By explanation the same person or persons visiting when there is no organised sport or activity on the premises that applies to them are considered to be non members and should be signed in by a member as guest/s or turned away.
Chippenham Sports Club is a private members Club with Sports Section and Social Sports Club membership available by application.
Chippenham Sports Club Byelaws.
The Sports Club Committee can make Byelaws as it sees fit to facilitate the running of the Sports Club within the terms of its constitution.
Any Byelaws made in a year must be put up for inauguration into the Constitution at the next AGM.
Byelaws should be posted on a Club Noticeboard for a minimum of 21 Days.
In the event that a number of members disagree with a ByLaw, an EGM can be called by a Minimum of 12 Fully paid up members.
